Information Literacy is an online unit delivered by Curtin University, via Open Universities Australia. The unit encapsulates the various facets of information services and literacy, developing the ability of those with substantial prior knowledge of information services to utilise this experience to facilitate educational programs.
The unit aims to develop your understanding of the place of information services in user education, focusing on developing your knowledge of the role of information literacy in enabling lifelong learning. It will facilitate the development of assessment skills, offering you the opportunity to learn practical tools and techniques to deliver, guide and measure the success of information literacy programs.
The unit will also work to develop your management ability, taking charge and measuring the success of education programs for both individuals and groups. You can expect to utilise your communication skills, applying principles of teaching and learning to ensure the effective delivery of education activities.
This unit assumes substantial prior knowledge through the completion of all level 1 and 2 information studies units.

Your ability to effectively and confidently utilise information services to the benefit of educational programs will be developed extensively by this unit. Basic transferable skills such as people and time management, organisation and verbal communication will also be challenged and developed through the range of assessment methods. This will leave you better qualified to act as part of academic and professional support teams, as well as preparing you to lead teams on information management projects. The specificity of the unit will enable those already in related professions to develop their career by offering greater insight into specific areas of information processes and management.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
