An online postgraduate unit provided by Curtin University and Open Universities Australia, Reference Services explores the principles and practices of reference and information services. You will investigate essential skills and tasks within the field, including digital and virtual reference, information literacy, advanced search strategies, the reference interview and ethical concerns of reference services.
On completion of this unit you will recognise a range of bibliographic devices and appraise how they can be used to provide access to content. You will also develop the tools to conduct an appropriate reference interview, and build skills in advanced and specialised forms of subject retrieval and citation based retrieval.
This unit is delivered through a variety of resources including discussion forums, podcasting and lecture capture, standard media and web links. Assessment takes the form of an investigation piece, an invigilated exam and an academic report.
