This online unit gives you a thorough grounding in leadership and management theory, with a focus on self-development. You will gain the skills necessary to improve your managerial effectiveness in an organisational setting by examining different approaches to leadership.
Provided over 12 weeks by Open Universities Australia and RMIT University, the unit encourages you to think creatively about leadership and contemplate the qualities required for successful management. It emphasises the difference between leadership and management skills, and demonstrates how each skill set contributes to an efficient and harmonious workplace.
You will learn how to increase your influence with colleagues, direct reports and other stakeholders. You will also improve self-awareness with regards to emotions, strengths and weaknesses. Finally, you will learn about your ethical duties as managers, and how to minimise personal and organisational risk.

This unit is designed for people who wish to progress their career in a managerial position. It fosters leadership skills, self-awareness and creative approaches to management.
Completing this unit, you will learn about different management styles, including the competency approaches, and how these facilitate personal development. You will learn to identify your own and others' strengths and weaknesses, and how to increase your influence within an organisation.
Upon completion, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the ethical duties of managers, including how to minimise organisational and personal risk.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
