Leading People and Organisations is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with RMIT University. The central aim of the unit is to empower you to lead an organisation by understanding the key theoretical principles of leadership and management. The teaching approach is investigative, providing you with the autonomy to develop and evaluate your own ideas, much like working a management role in the real world.
To begin with, you will learn the classic schools of managerial thought, analysing the extent to which they are still valid in the context of a changing cultural climate. Following this, you will explore cross-cultural leadership and diversity, and the primacy of emotional intelligence in management. Furthermore, you will also develop skills for effective decision-making and problem solving – key requirements for any managerial role.
Ultimately, Leading People and Organisations will teach you the concept of leadership, what is expected of you, and how to negotiate the pitfalls of leading an organisation. You will finish the unit with a diverse knowledge of management, how to negotiate its complexities, and the confidence to ultimately lead an organisation yourself.
