Contemporary Applied Marketing provides a practical approach to many of the current issues facing the marketing industry. This 13-week online postgraduate unit provided by Open Universities Australia and Swinburne University explores various concepts and activities in contemporary marketing practice. Study is industry-focused and uses case studies for students to gain practical insights as a way of learning.
Students will learn about the techniques that businesses use to engage customers, and the three pillars of strategic business research: understanding the organisation, understanding customers, and understanding the marketing environment and competition.
The unit also explores the application and interpretation of data generated by business research. For example, this includes data from customer and employee satisfaction research, service quality, audits and brand health tracking. The unit also allows students to analyse marketing strategies and elements of the marketing mix.

Price and value: background on price in the marketing mix, approaches for determining/researching price
Advertising: communications concept development and ad testing
Marketing strategy: background on segmentation and approaches to effective segmentation
