This Developing Research Skills and Methods unit hones your skills in choosing the right research methodology. Studied online through Open Universities Australia and in partnership with Murdoch University, you will learn the appropriate methods for different research questions and the right combination to use for whatever theoretical framework your study sits within.
You will learn by exploring different types of themes and topics, and you will gain exposure to core research methods used by different disciplines in the arts field.

In this Research Methods unit, the topics you will study include:
This unit will teach you intermediate level research skills and methods suitable to the arts field. You will gain an understanding of the importance of valid sources, the different ways of analysing texts, the difference between primary and secondary sources and be able to properly write in your chosen discipline of study.
You will also have an ability to recognise and abide by ethical considerations in types of research, present a valid argument supported by your research and learn vital self-reflection skills useful to any practising academic.
If you are an Australian citizen, you may be eligible to receive a government HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan, meaning you can defer payment of your fees.
This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP government loan schemes. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
