Through a mixture of lab skills training, clinical placements and online study, you will learn everything you need to know to work as an Enrolled Nurse in a range of settings: from busy emergency rooms through to GP clinics.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to confirm the health status of patients, work within the legal and ethical parameters of the nursing profession, and provide nursing care to a range of patients including older clients, culturally diverse patients, and those requiring complex care due to acute or chronic health issues.

Beyond the practical and theoretical training, you will also develop your bedside manner and learn to provide nursing care that respects and maintains the dignity of your clients.

Clinical placements

As a part of this enrolled nursing qualification, you will be required to complete three clinical placements (totalling 440 hours) in some or all of the following settings:

  • Acute care
  • Aged care
  • Community care

The placements will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a real-world setting, and to gain valuable on-the-job experience. Placements are fully facilitated and supported by RDNS Training and Silver Chain Training.

Please note that placements are full-time and unpaid.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Be a resident of South Australia or Western Australia; AND
  • Be at least 18 years old; AND
  • Be an Australian citizen, hold a permanent humanitarian visa, or a visa with study rights; AND
  • Have successfully completed Year 12, or its equivalent, in Australia OR apply based on your work/life experience; AND
  • Complete a literacy and numeracy skills test

Note: The Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing) (HLT51612) has been superseded by Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115) effective 7 December 2015. As this course is 18 months in duration, it will not be accepting any new enrolments into HLT51612 after 30 November 2016, as no arrangements for transition into the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115) will be available for learners unable to complete by 30 June 2018. You will still be eligible to apply to AHPRA for registration as an Enrolled Nurse provided you successfully complete Diploma of Nursing (HLT51612) prior to 1 July 2018. Subject to accreditation by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC), RDNS Training and Silver Chain Training intends commencing delivery of the HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing in early 2017.
