About this unit

Through the Nutrition, Health and Disease unit, you will gain a better understanding of the role that diet plays in a range of public health issues.

Epidemic diseases in Western societies will be linked to changes in the human diet, particularly focused on processed foods that cause metabolic stress and the onset of diabetes, cancer, heart disease and obesity. You will examine how the human diet has evolved from its pre-agricultural past to the present day.

Offered by Open Universities Australia and RMIT University, this unit will require you to read and interpret research papers; understand the rationale behind the use of functional foods and their mechanisms of action in the human body; and engage with the existing body of research into public health on a critical level.
