About this unit

Project Governance and Ethics is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with the University of South Australia. Its central focus is on providing you with a comprehensive theoretical understanding of sound ethical practice in project leadership. You will examine and critically evaluate a diverse range of theories, allowing you to effectively deal with the difficult moral choices you may face as a project manager.

To begin with, you will explore corporate and project policy, before examining internal communications and documentation. Following this, you will consider people management, contractual concepts, and project auditing. You will then explore how the principles of ethics manifest within these areas, and explore the wider moral responsibilities of project leaders and managers.

Essentially, Project Governance and Ethics provides you with an in-depth, sophisticated awareness of the complex ethical decisions faced by project leaders across disciplines. You will understand specific moral conundrums that arise in leadership, and be able to develop effective ethical solutions to these issues.

How will this unit advance my career?

Contemporary business is unique. We are now in a period where corporations increasingly have to take an ethical stance in order to meet corporate social responsibility standards. The age of social media has meant that anybody with a moral gripe against a company can air it freely – a phenomenon that can lead to disaster.

Consequently, if you aspire to be a senior manager, it is imperative that you understand how to lead ethically to minimise PR disasters and commit to higher ethical standards across projects. From an employer’s perspective, completion of a unit such as this proves you understand the modern business landscape; as well as how to lead people effectively and ethically.

How else will I benefit from this unit?
