Open Universities Australia and RMIT University offer you the opportunity to become confident in using a range of analytical techniques through this online Instrumental and Environmental Analysis unit. Aside from learning a range of different techniques and methods, you will also gain an awareness of their theoretical and scientific underpinnings.
The mandatory on-campus portion of this unit, which comprises of five days spent undertaking laboratory exercises, ensures that you have adequate hands-on experience to complement your theoretical knowledge. Upon completion of this unit you will be competent in operating a range of scientific instruments in order to carry out a selection of useful procedures. These procedures will include measuring ions with ion selective electrodes, ion chromatography, gas chromatography, flow injection analysis and solvent extraction.
You are expected to prepare reports in order to communicate your analytical processes and findings. During the unit you will develop the academic awareness necessary to detail suitable sample handling techniques in response to a range of various scenarios.
On campus attendance
As a part of this unit, students will be required to complete five days of mandatory laboratory exercises and at RMIT University’s Melbourne campus.
To be eligible to enrol, applicants must be available to spend five days doing laboratory work at RMIT University’s Melbourne campus, and must also have completed the following units:
Chemistry of Materials 1
Chemistry of Materials 2
