About this course

The Master of Fraud and Financial Crime course offered online by Charles Sturt University gives you a greater understanding of what constitutes fraud and how to investigate and help prevent it.

Developed in collaboration with the Commercial Crime Agency of the NSW Police Force and the private sector, this nationally accredited course is designed to cater to those in the police force and the public and corporate sectors who are responsible for fraud investigation and prevention.

In this postgraduate fraud course, you will cover topics such as the psychology of financial criminals, terrorist financing, whistleblowers, conducting interviews and taking statements, evidence brief compiling, asset tracing and auditing, legislation and much more.

You will also have the opportunity to tailor your studies through a selection of electives, and the option to either produce a professional research dissertation on a specialist field of inquiry, or complete your master’s degree via coursework.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to enter this program:

  • Have an appropriate bachelors degree from an Australian university, or equivalent overseas tertiary institution

AND

  • Have completed all of the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Fraud and Financial Crime at a credit level or above, or equivalent graduate diploma

Residential school component

The following subject contains an optional two-day residential school compontent:

  • Research methodology and dissertation proposal

Areas of study

In this financial crime course, the subjects you will study include:

Graduate Certificate of Fraud and Financial Crime

Compulsory subjects:

  • Financial crime control and risk management
  • Foundations in financial crime
  • Forensic accounting and asset recovery

Graduate Diploma of Fraud and Financial Crime

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate and the following:

  • Investigating financial crime – prosecuting financial crime

Plus:

  • 2 x 8 point 400 level electives, or 1 x 16 point 400 elective subjects offered by the AGSPS

Master of Fraud and Financial Crime

Successful completion of the graduate diploma and the following:

  • Financial crime: management and operational issues

Plus:

  • 2 x 8 point 500 level elective subjects, or 1 x 16 point 500 level elective subject offered by the AGSPS

OR 

Master of Fraud and Financial Crime

Successful completion of the graduate diploma and the following:

  • Research methodology and dissertation proposal
  • Dissertation

Shorter programs

If you choose not to study the entire Master of Fraud and Financial Crime degree you may be able to complete an alternative program. This is beneficial for students who need to develop a specialisation or who prefer not to commit to the whole study period.

Depending on the units studied, you may exit with a Graduate Certificate in Fraud and Financial Crime or a Graduate Diploma of Fraud and Financial Crime.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
