The Master of International Security Studies offered by Open Universities Australia focuses on the broad spectrum of traditional and non-traditional global security issues that pervade the current geopolitical climate.
This postgraduate international security course will give you in-depth knowledge and training in the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that inform the current international security landscape. This involves understanding the emergence of non-traditional threats such as pandemics, natural disasters, humanitarian intervention, economic security and environmental security, in conjunction with more conventional military threats, terrorism, law enforcement and critical infrastructure protection.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this program:
Have at least 5 years relevant work experience (ie. a defence, intelligence or law enforcement role requiring research and report writing skills)

Open Universities courses are offered in specific study intakes every year, known as Study Periods or Sessions. This means more flexibility as you can choose when to start studying.
If you are studying undergraduate units you can start at the beginning of any of the four Study Periods each year, each lasting 13 weeks. Most postgraduate courses are offered in three Sessions per year, with each Session lasting 14 weeks.
Exams are usually held in the week following the end of each Study Period or Session.
