About this unit

Terrorism Issues explores how terrorism and politically motivated violence have evolved over time, considers the motivations of the groups and individuals involved and examines changing trends in terrorist methodology.

Through the examination of relevant case studies, focused on al-Qaeda and its affiliated insurgent and terrorist groups, this unit uses historical insight to provide a deeper understanding of the contemporary practitioners of terrorism and the evolving nature of terrorist threat in context.

Delivered online by Open Universities Australia and Macquarie University, this unit develops investigative skills, critical understanding of theoretical concepts in the study of terrorism and knowledge of contemporary terrorism issues.

Eligibility

In order to enrol in this unit, you must be accepted into one of the following courses:

  • Graduate Diploma of International Security Studies, Macquarie University
  • Master of International Security Studies, Macquarie University
  • Graduate Diploma of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, Macquarie University
  • Master of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, Macquarie University
  • Master of International Security Studies / Master of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, Macquarie University

Applicants must also ensure they have not completed an academically equivalent unit.
