Foundations of Social Work Practice is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with Griffith University. Its fundamental aim is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the institutional structures and practices of the human services industry. Once armed with this knowledge, you will be able to embark on your first social work field placement, ready to succeed in the role.
To begin with, you will explore the expectations, processes, and group dynamics that typically apply in a social work context. Following this, you will be introduced to social work ethics and values, before familiarising yourself with the theoretical and organisational structures behind social work practice. Finally, you will develop your interpersonal and communication skills before starting placement.
Ultimately, Foundations of Social Work Practice provides you with a comprehensive understanding of how human services work, and how to approach the role. The combination of theory and practice is the perfect start to a career in social work.
