This online Global Tourism Futures unit offers you the opportunity to explore contemporary issues in tourism and the future of the tourism industry. Particular emphasis will be placed upon how the industry is likely to influence and be influenced by the four elements of the PEST framework, namely political, economic, social and technological factors.
Undertaking this unit will help you to develop an appreciation of the bidirectional links between climate change and tourism. Your understanding of the role played by advances in technology will also develop, particularly with regard to technological progress relating to transport.
Delivered by Open Universities Australia and Swinburne University, the unit invites you to familiarise yourself with the key trends within the tourism industry, along with projections for future trends. Over the course of the unit you will gain an understanding of how to conduct appropriate research within this field, and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to apply your findings to strategic decision making.

Undertaking this unit will give you the opportunity to obtain, develop and demonstrate a range of transferrable skills. This unit requires you to expand your understanding of research, deduction, critical analysis and problem solving, and to develop your capabilities within each of these areas. You will also be expected to work on your communication skills in order to accurately convey your ideas and arguments, particularly with regard to the pressing contemporary issues facing the tourism industry.
Though much of the knowledge you will acquire during this unit is specific to the tourism industry, the skill set you will possess upon completion of the unit can be usefully applied across multiple career roles and industries.
