Professional Writing Placement is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with Curtin University. The unit’s key aim is to allow you to employ and develop your writing skills within a professional environment. Through completing a range of writing and associated projects, you will gain the confidence and skill to embark on a career as a professional writer.
To begin with, you will be introduced to your chosen workplace and begin your placement. Throughout the experience, you will be tasked with critical reflection as well as peer communication. Finally, you will self-evaluate your placement experience, and be assessed by your academic and workplace supervisors.
Ultimately, Professional Writing Placement prepares you for what to expect from, and how to effectively perform the kind of tasks you will undertake as a commercial writer. This will not simply involve producing prose, but also the wider research obligations that professional writing roles typically demand.
