Career objective

To specialise in emergency nursing, further developing excellent patient care skills and clinical knowledge, and to eventually achieve CNC status.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing – University of Tasmania, completed 2007
Majors: mental health and emergency nursing
I was awarded high distinction grades in four subjects – biology, patient communication, neurology and emergency nursing.

Work experience

Third clinical placement – Launceston General Hospital, April–August 2007
During this placement I worked mainly in the busy emergency department. I gained a good understanding of the wide variety of skills necessary for emergency nursing and also the pace of the ED. I developed a keen interest in emergency nursing and hope to specialise in this area.

Second clinical placement – Springdale Aged Care Home, November 2006
During this placement I worked in a 50-bed aged care home. I demonstrated a good ability to manage dementia patients and enjoyed getting to know some of the residents.

First clinical placement – North-West Regional Hospital, April–August 2006
During this placement I worked in the emergency department, oncology ward and surgery. I learned how to keep a cool head when things get busy and developed techniques on how to manage patients with very different special needs.

Skills

I have developed a wide range of general nursing skills and hope to further my understanding of emergency nursing and trauma in the new graduate program.
