Darryn King
Project Writer
Who would have thought that after a three-year Arts degree I would actually be employable? Well, as it turns out, my toughest challenge has not been getting a job, but juggling a multitude of them. I work as an entertainment journalist, child care worker, tutor and subeditor, and on any particular working day I might be interviewing a Hollywood movie star; reviewing a video game, rock concert or zombie movie; subediting an article on skin self-examination for a science journal; helping a little girl learn how to read; or changing a baby’s nappy. (Guess which job is more likely to end in me getting peed on in the face? That’s right, interviewing a Hollywood celebrity.)
In between all the rest of it, I work under Sue Stevens’s iron fist in the Career FAQs publishing department, defending the use of the semi-colon and staunchly opposing ellipses with spaces preceding them.
