Definition of Office Administrator

Office Administrators support a team of people, maintaining records of leave, sick days and employee attendance and absence, as well as ensuring that everyone in the office is aware of how to get supplies they need, claim expenses and follow office systems and protocols.



Additional responsibilities include greeting visitors, purchasing stationery and consumables and ensuring that maintenance is carried out on office equipment. Office Administrators will keep track of receipts, invoices and purchase orders whilst also maintaining the condition of the office and often serve as a personal assistant to the head of the department.



Ensuring that administrative activities within an organisation run smoothly and efficiently, Office Administrators provide structure for other employees, manage budgets and records and may even undertake supervision or guidance roles for new employees.

What are the responsibilities of an Office Administrator ?

  • Meeting and greeting visitors
  • Conducting clerical duties such as filing, answering phones, responding to emails and printing or preparing documents
  • Performing accounting work including invoicing, reports and budget tracking.
  • Arranging travel and scheduling meetings for senior members of the organisation.
  • Maintaining office supplies, consumables and office equipment.
  • Coordinating personnel operations such as hiring, promotions, payroll and performance management.
  • Organising in-house events and activities like team lunches and christmas parties etc.
  • Providing administrative support for staff and monitoring production.

Career Outlook for Office Administrator

The average age of people working as is 45 with 19.70% of them being male. 65.90% of are employed full-time and they typically work around 38.2 hours per week.

 

Unemployment is below average and, with A Bachelor Degree or higher, the average Community Worker can earn around $1,150 per week Before Tax. In 2015 there were 129,200 working and the future growth of the profession is predicted to be moderate, with numbers around 136,300 in 2020.
