Definition of Operations Manager

While Operations Managers hold a crucial role in an organisation, the precise duties of the position vary depending on the nature of the company, although a comprehensive range of interpersonal and business related skills are required in order to excel.


As well as organising the day-to-day activities of a business, the Operations Manager is also responsible for overseeing multiple departments, from production and development to human resources and accounts. They manage quality assurance, oversee hiring and training, monitor and analyse processes and develop strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.


An Operations Manager is charged with ensuring that an organisation is running as well as it possibly can, they achieve this through long term planning, reviewing and fine-tuning operational systems, improving information flow, managing support services and driving performance initiatives and incentives.

  • Creating policies and implementing objectives for a business or organisation.
  • Outlining company standards and maintaining consistent management and direction.

  • Continually appraising situations and responding to changes by altering operational processes and issuing instructions and directives to staff.
