About this course

The Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015), from Selmar Institute of Education, equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for pursuing rewarding careers in the aged care sector.

This entry-level course will prepare you to provide person-centred support to those in the community and/or in residential settings who require support, whether due to ageing, disability or other reasons. By the end of the course, you'll be able to combine factual, technical and practical knowledge in order to provide direct care to clients according to individualised plans.

If you currently hold a position within the industry, you may be able to complete this course on a workplace basis; alternatively, you can study on-site at Selmar's St Kilda campus, and you'll also have 140 hours of practical work placement organised for you.


To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Your Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills must meet required standards for Certificate III level study; AND
  • A current National Police Check will be required for practical placement in an Aged Care facility; AND
  • Completion of a course requirement form.
