If you’re a graduate who doesn’t have a formal communications background, but you’re interested in gaining a broad understanding of contemporary communications theory and practice, a Master of Professional Communication from Edith Cowan University could be the perfect course for you.

This coursework degree covers key subjects in the professional communications sphere, from media, journalism, advertising and public relations to globalisation, cultural diversity and innovation. As well as studying these core topics, you’ll design and execute a major project in an area of your own interest and expertise. This involves an independent process of inquiry, analysis and synthesis and will allow you to demonstrate your research ability and understanding of key professional communication concepts.

Studying for two years full-time or four years part-time at ECU’s Mount Lawley campus, you’ll graduate with the advanced professional communication skills, knowledge and experience you need to advance your career to its next stage.


You may be eligible to apply for a postgraduate course at ECU if you meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a Bachelor Degree from a recognised Australian Institution (or equivalent); OR
  • Where accepted, have completed a relevant Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate; OR
  • Where accepted, have completed 5 or more years of relevant work experience; AND
  • Meet ECU’s English Competency requirements

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $45,881 (2019-20 income year).
