About this course

The Graduate Diploma in Psychology at the University of New England (UNE) will enable you to continue furthering your studies or to use your in-depth psychological knowledge in a range of careers.

The course will give you a solid foundation in psychology principles and the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and research techniques, which are highly regarded in the workforce.

If you have no prior psychology qualifications, you can complete the required 10 units of this course in a minimum of one year if you commence study in trimester 3 and finish in trimester 2 of the following year. If you have already completed introductory psychology units, you only need to undertake eight post-introductory units of this course.


To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Hold an undergraduate bachelor's qualification in any discipline; AND
  • International students must meet the university's English language requirements.

You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous education and experience meet certain criteria.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a nationally recognised Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of New England.

Graduates of this course can opt to continue their studies to become a professional psychologist or to use their advanced research, psychological assessment and counselling skills to work in a number of fields that require psychological knowledge. These include social work, market research, counselling, human resources, life coaching and social policy research.

Graduates who achieve the necessary grades are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology.

How Much Will It Cost?

Eligible students can apply for FEE-HELP to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees.

Alternatively, you can pay annually for the units you select to study in that year.

The University of New England also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $55,874 (2017-18 income year).
