If you’re pursuing a career in professional counselling, and want to give yourself a competitive edge by advancing your skills and development, a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy from Edith Cowan University is the ultimate postgraduate course for you.

This coursework degree combines theoretical study with experiential-based skill development and self-reflective clinical practice. You’ll cover core subjects such as couples and family therapy, group psychotherapy, and the theories and principles of psychodynamic practice. You may be eligible to apply for a postgraduate course at ECU if you meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a 3 year Bachelor Degree from a recognised Australian Institution (or equivalent), ideally in a related field; AND
  • Meet ECU’s English Competency requirements and any other special admission requirements for the course

Where Will It Lead Me?

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy from Edith Cowan University.

Graduates who complete the Clinical strand of the degree are eligible for professional accreditation with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). Graduates are prepared to pursue professional counselling and psychotherapy careers in a number of different areas, including relationship/family/school/return-to-work counselling, youth work, group therapy and private practice.

Students may also choose to pursue further study with a Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated).

Students may pay for this course upfront or apply for a government FEE-HELP loan to cover all or part of their fees (eligibility criteria applies).

Scholarships and ECU Student Loans are also available to eligible students.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $45,881 (2019-20 income year).
