If you’re a non-design-related professional or graduate wishing to upgrade your practice and career prospects with professional design skills, a Master of Professional Design from Edith Cowan University is an ideal postgraduate course for you.

Throughout this comprehensive coursework degree, you’ll develop advanced technical and conceptual skills in design. You’ll learn how to use design thinking to investigate and understand complex challenges and generate user-focused ideas. This course focuses on advanced design application through the production of a major piece of work in an area of your own interest and expertise. Through guided independent study, you’ll combine contemporary studio-based practice and theory with rigorous critical analysis to plan, execute and reflect upon your project.

This course is offered on-campus at ECU Mount Lawley. After two years of full-time study (or four years part-time), you’ll graduate with a masterful knowledge of interdisciplinary design practice and scholarship, ready to advance to the next stage of your career.


You may be eligible to apply for a postgraduate course at ECU, if you meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a Bachelor Degree from a recognised Australian Institution (or equivalent); OR
  • Where accepted, have completed a relevant Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate; OR
  • Where accepted, have completed 5 or more years of relevant work experience; AND
  • Meet ECU’s English Competency requirements

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $45,881 (2019-20 income year).
