About this course

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, offered by Benchmark College, provides students with the specific skills and knowledge base needed to develop, implement and evaluate early childhood education and care programs.

You'll cover everything there is to know about the learning and development of children, culture and diversity in early childhood, and health and safety in the child care environment. With a focus on putting theory into practice, you'll learn how to encourage the development of each child's individual strengths and interests through thorough assessment, planning and evaluation of their care.

The course comprises 23 core units and five elective units, covering topics from the fundamentals of care, health and safety through to designing and implementing a curriculum for children's learning and development.

This course has flexible delivery options;

  • School-based Traineeships - which allow year 10, 11 and 12 high school students to commence or complete a traineeship at school.
  • Employment-based Traineeship - all training and assessments are conducted in the workplace so that you learn on the job in a practical and relevant way.
  • On-Campus - training and assessments are conducted at a Benchmark campus.

Eligibility

To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Must have a Unique Student Identifier; AND
  • Must complete a LLN quiz upon entry; AND
  • Must meet certain entry criteria if applying for a VET Student Loan.
