About this course

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113), offered by Selmar Institute of Education, prepares students to become lead educators in programs for children in centre-based and family day care.

Throughout the course, you'll develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in leadership or management within the challenging and rewarding early childhood industry. You'll learn the legal, ethical and health/safety components involved in providing care for babies, toddlers and children, and the key methodologies for fostering their learning and development.

This course has three delivery options. Study on-campus in St Kilda or by distance (online), with a practical placement component; or complete your qualification in a one-on-one capacity within your own workplace.


To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Your Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills meet required standards for Diploma level study; AND
