Course Rundown

About this course

Through the Diploma of School Age Education and Care (CHC50213), offered by Selmar Institute of Education, students prepare to become leaders and coordinators of school age education and care programs.

You'll cover everything involved in the day-to-day running of before and after school care services and/or vacation care services. You'll learn the core methodologies and the health/safety requirements involved in providing care and education for children outside the school environment. You will also discover how to plan and implement play and educational activities to foster children's learning and development.

The course is delivered in a one-on-one workplace training setting, available to anyone currently holding a position in the industry. A facilitator visits your workplace each month to offer training, support and guidance, and workplace hours can be counted as practical placement hours towards the qualification.

Eligibility

To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Your Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills meet required standards for Diploma level study; AND
  • It is a requirement for anyone that is working or volunteering in the Early Learning industry to hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC). The WWCC must be applied for immediately as it can take several months for your application to be processed; AND
  • Completion of a course requirements form.
