Course Rundown

The Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, offered by La Trobe University, provides a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in information technology, as well as the opportunity to explore focus areas such as information systems, software development, computer networks and web development.

In the first year of the course, students focus on the fundamentals of IT, including programming, databases and internet client/network engineering. Then you’ll move on to more specialised areas, such as app development, operating systems, project management, computer science mathematics, and various industry projects.

Delivered by Didasko, this course combines online study with early entry into the workforce, providing students with essential IT industry certifications.

With a Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, you'll gain a strong foundation of IT knowledge 


To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Have basic computer skills; AND
  • Provide a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • If you don’t have a year 12 certificate, you must be assessed as displaying a required level of competence in both reading and numeracy. Upon discussion with a Careers Consultant you will be provided with a link and access to an Pre-enrolment Assessment which you must complete; AND
  • If you are not at least 18 years of age, parental consent will be required by completing an appropriate form.

Where Will It Lead Me?

La Trobe online applied degrees provide you with the unique opportunity to achieve up to three qualifications over the duration of your studies. Subject to satisfactorily completing each part of your course, you will be awarded an applied diploma (end year 1), an applied associate degree (end year 2), and a Bachelor of Applied Information Technology from La Trobe University when you successfully complete all three years.

With the essential industry skills and technical knowledge embedded in the course, graduates will be prepared to pursue roles bridging the gap between technical and management personnel.

How Much Will It Cost?

Eligible students can apply for the Australian government's HECS-HELP loan to assist with your fees. A Government contribution of $10,432 will be made per year if you meet the relevant HECS-HELP residency requirements. Student contribution is $9,185 per year.

La Trobe University also offers an upfront payment option.

HECS-HELP You may be eligible to receive HECS-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you may not need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees directly to the provider on your behalf. You'll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $46,620 (2020-21 income year).
