About this course

The Certificate IV in Retail Management, offered by Benchmark College, is designed for those who are already working in a retail or business-to-business environment, and who wish to pursue management positions or small business ownership.

Whether you're managing a small retail outlet, a small business-to-business outlet, or a section or department within a larger retail store, business or franchise, this course is for you. You'll learn the ins and outs of retail management processes, such as monitoring financials and achieving sales results; leading a team and promoting positive employee relationships; and maintaining security and safety within the retail environment.

The course comprises seven core units and four elective units. It is nationally recognised and available to those who have completed a Certificate III in Retail or have relevant industry employment experience.

This course is an employment-based traineeship, with all training and assessment conducted in the workplace, so that you learn on the job in a practical and relevant way.


To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Have achieved a Certificate III in Retail; OR
  • Have relevant industry employment experience in a job role that has involved the application of skills and knowledge described in core units of competency from the Certificate III in Retail, and have completed SIRXWHS002 - Contribute to workplace health and safety.
