Office romance dos and don’ts
Dos
Keep your blossoming romance as disaster-free as possible and all your workmates will appreciate it!

Keep your cool. Be professional about all your office relationships – romantic or otherwise.

Get working! A distracting office romance is no reason for your productivity to drop. Instead, turn it into an incentive; you’ll be able to show off your top sales pitch to the object of your affections.

Practise good time management — outsource your romance to the lunchbreak!

Don'ts
Don’t pursue the boss! It might seem like fun now, but if the relationship goes sour, how long is your job going to last? On the other hand, if you’re the boss …

Don’t hook up with a junior staff member. When your new squeeze suddenly gets a fantastic promotion, it’s going to look a bit suspicious, isn’t it?

Don’t flaunt it! It’s all very well that you and the cute new cadet have the hots for one another, but trust me; no-one else in the office wants to hear about it! Keep business and pleasure separate.

Don’t bring your fights or your flirting into the office. While no-one wants to see you sneaking a kiss next to the coffee machine, they don’t want you both sulking and huffing around the office either.

Don’t use the office email to send each other love letters — your boss might just intercept one and then there’ll be big trouble for both of you.

Don’t stick around if everything goes pear-shaped and the repercussions start to damage your career. It’s better to start anew with a great reference than to let your reputation be ruined by a souring relationship.

If he/she is married … don’t even think about it!
