Tips for keeping the spark alive at work

Go to sleep at a reasonable hour the night before you work. It’s disappointing when the weekend ends, but it’s a bad idea to stay up partying on Sunday night.

Start your day with a fresh approach by getting to work early and making everyone coffee. Arriving late for the 10th time in a row with a badly ironed shirt says ‘FIRE ME!’.

Begin each day with a positive outlook. The ‘my job sux so who cares’ approach will make work even more boring.

Change your usual routine. If you usually check your email first thing in the morning, wait an hour.

Chat to your boss about your strengths and weaknesses. But don’t be scared to take criticism.

Ask for some new work. Don’t limit yourself to your job description.

Use your spare time to research your job or industry. Looking at the clock every five minutes makes time pass slowly.

Keep your workplace tidy or give it a makeover. A clean and organised desk will help you be more proactive.

Avoid distractions. Facebook should be kept out of business hours.

Earn yourself a pay rise or promotion. Don’t think that the only option you have is to look for a job elsewhere.
