espite the world economic downturn, there is no downturn in the number of people considering a career in property if book sales of the Career FAQs Property: Land your dream job is anything to go by. The book continues to sell well at retail and on the Career FAQs website.
Published in April this year, the book shows the diversity of jobs by telling the stories of over 25 Australians working in different areas of the property and real estate industry. Many are happy to give advice to those considering property as a career option:
‘My recommendation would probably be to start off in a smaller agency in order to receive exposure to different areas within the property industry – asset management, leasing and sales – and gain a broad understanding of how the industry works’ says Michael Caramanis, Asset Manager, Delmege Sydney.
The book provides a comprehensive overview of the property industry in Australia. Included are salary, work–life balance and qualifications snapshots, as well as information about training and support organisations.
It’s a warts and all portrayal of the industry featuring interviews with HR Managers about what they are looking for in candidates, information on tertiary courses, and advice on how to get the job you want. Get a bird’s eye view of the depth and breadth of this exciting industry.
And get some tips from those on the inside like this one from Caroline Choy, Property Development Manager at AMP Capital Investors. ‘Being fit and healthy outside of work is really important in property. Depending on which sector you’re in, you can work quite long hours and it can be very stressful.’ says Caroline.
The book is packed full of advice and anecdotal stories that is entertaining, informative and inspirational.
The foreword is written by Nic Lyons, National Director of the Property Council of Australia.
