Whilst completing my studies I worked as a part-time sales assistant with retail giant David Jones for three years, where I was consistently striving to deliver a high-quality customer service experience.
During my employment period, I was able to work in a variety of departments including children’s wear, shoes and accessories, young women’s fashion and electrical goods. Having worked across the departments exposed me to different clientele and taught me how to better engage with each customer to meet and exceed their needs.
I have a natural ability to establish a rapport with a diverse range of customers, which enabled me to deliver them a service that was personalised, genuine and constructive. I was able to clearly convey information about the goods, listen attentively to what the customer was after, and provide a product to meet their needs. An example of this was when I was greeted by a bride-to-be who was panicked as she needed to find several pairs of the same earrings for her bridal party and only had four days. Stock in our store was low, however, I was able to sell her the two items we did have and assist her with finding a store that had available stock and have the items express delivered to her home.
My exceptional customer service skills were acknowledged when I was awarded Store Sales Assistant of the Month four times throughout my employment period. I also received numerous testimonials from customers thanking and praising me for my outstanding assistance.
I strongly believe that customer service is the key to a successful business, and I am confident in my ability to be on the frontline and ensure that customers receive a quality experience. This belief has been reflected in my performance in the role of sales assistant.
