About this course

Do you have a Bachelor of Nursing? Are you wanting to take your nursing career to the next level? Then the Graduate Certificate of Nursing, offered by James Cook University, is for you. The course equips Registered Nurses with advanced knowledge and specialised skills in their chosen nursing field.

Students choose one of two majors: Leadership and Management or Education. Leadership and Management students will delve into the methods, practices and ethics of health leadership, management and communication. Education majors examine principles of education for health professionals, learning about clinical coaching and teaching in practice settings.

Delivered 100% online, this course gives students the flexibility to study and improve their future career prospects while continuing to work as Registered Nurses.

Eligibility

To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Nursing, or equivalent qualification, and;
    Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) or Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent registration with the relevant registering authority for applicants outside of Australia;
  • Completed a minimum of one year of full-time clinical experience, or the part-time equivalent, as a registered nurse.
  • Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a - Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Graduate Certificate of Nursing from James Cook University.

Graduates will receive increased professional recognition and be prepared to take on nursing leadership roles in their chosen area of practice. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies and complete a Graduate Diploma of Nursing or a full Master of Nursing.

Eligible students can apply for the Australian government's FEE-HELP loan to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees.

James Cook University also offers an upfront payment option.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $55,874 (2017-18 income year).
