Course Rundown

Spread the English language around the world by becoming a certified TESOL teacher with the 11021NAT Certificate IV in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualification from Melbourne City Institute of Education (MCIE).

MCIE is an award-winning RTO that partners with Explore English, a premier English school in Melbourne, ensuring you receive the right education and training needed to excel as an English teacher. You will learn all the elements of teaching English, including conversational English, pronunciation, grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Gain knowledge of the latest teaching techniques that will equip you with practical skills to teach English as a second language in any classroom setting, whether in Australia, online, or overseas.

The course is delivered virtually and includes 26 sessions (one session per week) plus 4 weeks over the summer holidays. However observation and practice sessions are held on campus in Melbourne CBD and require a few days each for observation and practice.

As part of this teaching course, students are required to undertake 12 hours of work placement within an approved institution: 6 hours of observation and 6 hours of practical training.

 

Eligibility

The following requirements apply for admission into this course:

  • It is recommended that students have attained the age of 18 by course start date
  • Entry quiz – Language, Literacy and Numeracy Quiz
  • Evidence of completion of Year 10 or Year 12 of Australian / New Zealand secondary school (overseas equivalent for English speaking countries) or completion of a Certificate III or higher-level Course in the Australian Qualification Framework (this must have been studied / completed in English)
  • Enrolment in other courses of study requiring equivalent or above levels of English ability (for example a University Bachelor/Master Degree)
  • Individuals whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate level of spoken and written English upon completion of a Literacy and Numeracy assessment or provide a result from an endorsed English proficiency test (with an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent)
