Queensland’s transport and logistics (T&L) sector plays a vital role in keeping goods and services moving across the state—and the workforce behind it is in high demand. Whether you’re an experienced operator or just getting started, upskilling can help you stay competitive, improve job security and unlock new career opportunities.

To support this, the Queensland Government has introduced initiatives to help T&L workers gain formal qualifications through recognition of prior learning (RPL), career planning, and access to subsidised training options.

Support Through Skilling Solutions Queensland

Originally launched as part of the Get into Transport and Logistics program, Skilling Solutions Queensland connects T&L workers with qualified consultants who offer tailored career guidance, information on training pathways, and help navigating vocational education options.

Services may include:

  • One-on-one career advice tailored to your experience
  • Help identifying skills you’ve gained on the job
  • Assistance applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
  • Referrals to subsidised TAFE and training programs under Queensland’s Skills Assure framework

Whether you’re driving trucks, managing supply chains, or working in warehousing, Skilling Solutions can help you formalise your skills and open the door to higher-paying, more stable jobs within the industry.

Case Study: From Experience to Qualification

Stephen Phillips, a veteran with 25 years in the industry, accessed the program and quickly turned his work history into nationally recognised qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Transport and Logistics (Warehousing and Storage)
  • Certificate III in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport)

Thanks to RPL, Stephen didn’t need to “start from scratch.” He then completed a Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics through TAFE, further boosting his employability.

“Getting that piece of paper gave me a real edge—better wages, better conditions, and confidence in my career path,” Stephen said.

Why Upskilling in T&L Matters in 2025

The transport and logistics industry is rapidly evolving due to:

  • Digitalisation of supply chains
  • Automation and fleet technology
  • Increased demand for last-mile delivery and eCommerce logistics
  • Government infrastructure investment and freight planning

This means greater demand for workers with up-to-date skills in areas like transport scheduling, inventory management, heavy vehicle operation, and logistics systems.

If you’re aiming for roles in supervision, planning, or compliance, a formal qualification can give you the edge employers are looking for.
