Re: Public Relations Officer position

I am writing to apply for the position of Public Relations Officer at the National Association of Cyclists, as advertised recently on SEEK.com.au.

I am an exceptionally motivated and enthusiastic public relations professional, with a Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) and several years’ experience in public relations in the non-profit and public sector.

In my current role as Public Relations Officer at the Wildlives Foundation, I am responsible for the implementation of the Foundation’s long- and short-term PR strategies. This encompasses the writing of media releases, speeches, fact sheets and newsletters, liaising with journalists and other media, and using social media platforms to create engagement and discussion. I am also responsible for training other staff in responding to public queries.

Social media has become an increasing focus, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs. I find the challenge of social media exciting, the effort essential, and the avenues growing by the day. One of my proudest achievements has been the creation of a social media campaign on commercial kangaroo killing that went viral and generated huge amounts of public interest, and was written up as a piece for the Sydney Tribune as a result.

I am an energetic person, driven to achieve positive outcomes. Both my written and verbal communication skills are advanced – I can turn out a quality media release in no time, I thrive in a busy environment and I am well accustomed to working to tight deadlines.

As an avid cyclist, I would love the opportunity to use my skills to build awareness and create engagement on cycling issues on behalf of the National Association of Cyclists. I have attached my resume and a copy of my work, and I look forward to discussing the position with you further.

Yours sincerely,
