Course Unit Courses
Get a taste tester of a degree when you undertake single-unit study. A unit is a study module worth a specific number of credit points (not to be confused with a course subject). Single unit study is great for filling in a skills gap, increasing your chances of getting into a degree programme, reduce future study time with recognition of prior learning, or may inspire you to continue onto a postgraduate degree. Single unit study is not available from all providers or with all qualifications so be sure double check.
What is a course unit?
A course unit is a single subject or module within a broader qualification. You can study a course unit to gain skills in a specific area without committing to a full course. See available course units.
Can I study just one unit of a course?
Yes! Many education providers allow you to enrol in a standalone unit for professional development, upskilling, or interest. These are often part of a Certificate or Diploma program but can be completed on their own.
Are course units nationally recognised?
If the course unit is part of a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) package, then yes. You can confirm recognition at training.gov.au.
Will I get a certificate for completing a single unit?
You’ll typically receive a Statement of Attainment for completing a unit from an accredited course. This proves your competency in that area. Learn more at MySkills.gov.au.
Can I study a course unit online?
Yes! Many course units are offered online for flexibility. Perfect if you’re working, parenting, or trying out a field before enrolling in a full course. Find online options.
