If you’re a compassionate, empathetic person who wants to help others overcome the challenges of addiction and live healthier lives, the CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs from Hader Institute of Education could be the start of a meaningful career.

This course gives you the practical skills to support people affected by alcohol and other drugs. You’ll learn how to assess client needs, deliver brief interventions, develop and review individual treatment plans, work with people experiencing co-existing mental health issues, and apply culturally safe, trauma-informed practice. Communication, ethical practice, and professional self-care are also woven throughout the course.

You study 100% online over 12 months, combining three hours of live weekly Zoom sessions with 15 hours of self-paced study each week. There are no exams and no mandatory work placement — practical skills are developed through simulated activities and assessor-led role plays. Eligibility

To be eligible to study this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a visa with full work and study rights.
  • Have completed a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment via the LLN Robot platform and met the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 4 standard prior to enrolment.
  • Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), or be willing to obtain one.
  • Have sound computer skills, including the ability to navigate software systems and intermediate use of Microsoft Word (formatting, tables, editing) to complete assessments.
  • Have access to a laptop or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection to complete online modules and attend virtual Zoom classes.
  • Complete a Pre-Training Review interview (via phone) to confirm eligibility and readiness to undertake the course.
