What is a workplace course?

A workplace course is a training program delivered at your job site, allowing you to gain practical skills while you work. It’s often used for traineeships, compliance training, or role-specific upskilling.

Can I do a nationally recognised course in the workplace?

Yes. Many Certificate III and IV courses are offered as workplace-based training by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). You can check recognition via training.gov.au.

Am I paid while doing workplace training?

Yes, if you’re employed while undertaking a traineeship or apprenticeship. Your training is part of your job, and you’re paid according to the applicable award or enterprise agreement.

Can I get Centrelink while studying a workplace course?

If you’re in a full-time traineeship or apprenticeship, you may be eligible for Youth Allowance, Austudy, or ABSTUDY. Learn more on the Services Australia website.

Are there government-funded workplace courses?

Yes. Many workplace training programs are subsidised through JobTrainer or state-level initiatives. Ask your employer or training provider about government-funded options, or explore MySkills.gov.au.
