Course Rundown

The ACM20121 Certificate II in Animal Care from Melbourne City Institute of Education (MCIE) is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone who wants to turn a passion for animals into a real career. You study the theory online at your own pace and build hands-on skills through 160 hours of compulsory work placement in an approved animal care workplace — and MCIE arranges the placement for you through Skiltrak, so you don’t have to find your own.

The course covers 12 units across animal handling, feeding and watering, hygiene and infection control, basic animal first aid, and supporting the health care of animals under supervision. It also includes units in communication and workplace health and safety, giving you a well-rounded foundation for the industry. Assessment is practical and competency-based, with no formal exams — tasks are completed online and through your placement.

With rolling monthly enrolments and a 12-month expected duration, it is easy to get started when the time is right for you. This course also opens the door to further study, including the ACM30122 Certificate III in Animal Care Services. Enquire to learn more.

Please note: This course is not government funded and is not free TAFE
