Frequently Asked Questions
VET Student Loans (VSL) is an Australian Government program that helps eligible students cover tuition fees for approved diploma-level and above vocational education and training (VET) courses. Learn more at education.gov.au.
You must be an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder, meet academic requirements (e.g. Year 12 or equivalent), and be enrolled in an approved course with an approved provider. Full criteria are listed on the StudyAssist website.
VSL caps apply, meaning the government will only loan up to a certain amount per course. If your tuition fees exceed the cap, you will need to pay the difference directly to the provider.
After enrolling in an eligible course with a VSL-approved provider, you’ll receive a loan application form (eCAF) through the government system. You must complete it before the census date to access the loan.
Yes, repayments are made through the tax system once your income reaches the repayment threshold (currently $51,550 per year). Visit ATO.gov.au for the latest threshold and repayment info.
